A Diaz Cookbook is ready for Distribution
By Larry J. Rodarte, December 26, 2020
From an idea in 2005 to December 2020, the Diaz Cookbook is finally ready for distribution. The labor lof love started with a call out for recipes from Diaz Family Members and the end result is 110 delicious culinary dishes, appetizers and desserts. The spiral bound cookbook is filled with pictures of our Diaz Matriarchs with a theme of aprons and older pictures.
We will be sending out the cookbooks via mail to those outside of the Great Lakes Bay Region starting on Monday. And those who want to pick them up in Saginaw, can call me to pick up at my home or the Union Civica.
It is my hope that these recipes will be used and the end results shared on our Diaz Facebook page. And it is my hope that 100 years from now this treasured keepsake will survive and bring culinary expertise to family members for years to come.
Big thank you to my sister Joanne and prima Susie Diaz who helped me with the editing of this book. They taught me that there is a different language when it comes to recipes, so I am very appreciative of their help.
“Merry Christmas! The book turned out beautiful! Everyone has commented how nice it is. Becky was surprised and don't remember giving you that recipe. I'm still going through it. Great job Larry,” said Susie Carmen Torrez.
And from Lisa Orozco: “Larry. My mom and dad loved the cookbook! They were checking out the beautiful pictures and momma was excited to try some of the fabulous recipes! Awesome job !! Thank you for letting me run and get it on Christmas Eve.”
I recently had cousin Connie Medel from San Antonio, Texas call in on my Radio show Mi Gente on Air to discuss our Diaz Cookbook. You can listen to us on the link below. Connie's interview starts at around 25 min into the program.
It's wonderful to have such a large family and have our very own cookbook, with recipes handed down all the way back from the moutainous region of Michoacan from Grandma Cecilia Rosales Diaz.
Thank you to all who contributed to the cookbook and thank you for your patience. When I decided to revisit the idea of the cookbook this past April, I thought I would have a lot of time during a pandemic, but with civil unrest and protesting, a 500 year-old flood and a infamous election all during the backdrop of a pandemic, — well it was difficult to concentrate.
If anyone would like to still purchase the cookbook, you can buy it online still, or pay in person. They are $20 and worth every penny. So get to cooking and I hope to see all your dishes on facebook real soon.
I love you all, cousin Larry
